2000 VAULT

Svetlana Khorkina

At the 2000 Olympic All Around Finals the vault was not set up right. I have no idea how that could have happened at the Olympics when everyone there knew that everything had to be set up perfectly.  Svetlana Khorkina was the favorite to win the All Around and in my opinion, she could have. The top women in the All Around finals started on Vault. Svetlana vaults and falls on her vault. This meant she was out of medals contention after her first vault. Obviously, this  caused her to be upset going into uneven bars. She then falls again on bars (which was her best event and had been champion many times on that event). Later, an Australian gymnast during vault warm ups noticed something was wrong with the horse. It turned out that the horse was lower than it was supposed to be. The gymnast that had gone were allowed to vault again. Svetlana decided not to go again since she already had another fall on bars. I believe that if the vault was properly set up the first time, Svetlana would have had a great bars routine and would have medaled in the All Around.
